My daughter inadvertently booked her flights the wrong way round (i.e. return flights to Portugal rather than from Portugal), realized as the payment was going through but couldn’t cancel, rang Ryanair customer services immediately but was told she couldn’t have a refund and that the flights could not be changed so she would have to book new flights!

On the Ryanair site, it states that one can make changes to flights within 24-hours. However, the customer service team appear to be untrained, which meant that the problem was not resolved within that time zone and she has effectively been charged for the full flight. She has since emailed Ryanair requesting that someone in authority contact her to discuss the matter but sadly, this has not happened.


Her experience with the customer service team was both frustrating and fruitless. as she was passed from one unhelpful, untrained operative to another. No-one seemed capable of advising her accurately or of forwarding her to anyone that could assist so that she had to re-explain the situation to each and every new operative. More worryingly, one of the operatives was so untrained and inarticulate in her advice that, under the guise of charging an additional fee to change the flights, she tried to charge her for a completely new set of flights on top of the ones that she had already incorrectly purchased! Luckily she had insufficient funds in her account for this transaction to be processed and she managed to cancel it in time.
