What are the most important things to prepare before each trip?

I have traveled quite a lot domestically, but not too much aboard. Could you share with me your experiences on which are the most important things to consider to have successful trips to other countries? I am working in a virtual staging company and we are planning to have a summer vacation in a different country. As not being familiar to going aboard, so I am quite worried.
