Since it came out, I have been reticent to get Marco Polo even if it looked like a terrific game (I love middle weight made in germany euros). I also read the book a few years ago.

The reason was that the game looked way too resource exchange focused (that's the impression it gave me looking at all those charts, tiles and cards) and, of course, the dice. I like my choices to be restricted by game mechanics or other players but not by die rolls -seriously, I can't stand when someone argue that these dicefest euros are not that random because you can spend resources modifying your rolls!

 

But there's something really appealing for me about Marco Polo and is the route traveling aspect. I tried a lot of point to point movement games but none of them left me satisfied. In the end, they are about going the shortest and cheapest way to reach your next better move. My dream point to point movement game would encourage you to carefully develop a full route, taking into account every single step in between -that's it: not just going from A to B but deciding wich of several paths is better based in what you will find there.

 

Is that even possible? I read a comment from an user that stated that point to point movement was underdeveloped in almost every other games, but that Marco Polo has been the only one that actually gave him a sense of traveling. Will I like Marco Polo?
