My trip to BOG and Cartagena on the coast was awesome. I saw a lot and met a bunch of cool people. I didn't feel uncomfortable--even while visiting shady neighborhoods in Bogota. The security is very present in BOG and the coast. I didn't take the 18 hour bus between these cities, but I met many people who had and they didn't express any issues.
